400 series cameras

Only 3 years passed before Polaroid came out with the next series of cameras. These 400 series cameras were practially identical to their corresponding 300 series models except for the change in the flash unit. It appears that Polaroid settled into the feature set they thought they could market the most effectively to the masses, as they went on to produce these cameras for 6 years.

The only change from the previous series, the focused flash unit, was touted as highly innovative with the implementation of mechanical shutters which controlled the output of the flash. Previously, it appears that the electronic shutter controlled flash exposure in earlier series cameras. In this way, Polaroid seems to have taken a step backwards in utilizing a mechanical system instead of electronic to control flash exposures. The focused flash unit used less common "Hi Power" flash cubes, which were notched special so a user could not insert normal flash cubes into the unit.
